    • cause of death: automobile accident
    • from the February 18, 1931 issue of the Linesville Herald:
      FATAL ACCIDENTS TO THREE
Returning to their homes just west of Linesville, Saturday evening, from a birthday celebration with their brother, John Dennis, at Sharon, Mrs. T. H. Johnson was instantly killed and Mrs. Clark was fatally injured with the Ford sedan in which they were sitting was struck by a heavy bus, near Hartstown. The visit had been made to the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Ralya and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Chapin, with whom Mr. Dennis was staying. Mrs. Carrie Johnson was aged 70 years and Mrs. Clark 77.
Jack Johnson, grandson of Mrs. Johnson and Clark Ford, grandson of Mrs. Clark, made the trip with the two sisters. Mr. Ford the driver of the car had stopped on account of an accident ahead and the two boys had just returned and entered the machine to continue their journey. They were not hurt. The accident happened at the curve near the foot of Sand Hill.
Two cars, driven by Fred C. Llussen of Pittsburgh, and Wilbur Gater, of Erie, had blocked traffic on the road just around the curve and the foot of the grade when they sideswiped each other. They were still entangled when the car driven by Clark Ford approached, but he was able to stop in time to keep from hitting the cars.
The cars had cleared the road and were moving on, Ford preparing to do likewise when the bus approached around the bend. It struck the sedan, shoving it about 30 feet, into the posts of the guard fence at that spot. Mrs. Johnson, suffering from a crushed chest, was believed to be dead as she was taken from the wreckage, and Mrs. Clark suffered a broken arm and internal injuries.
The driver of the bus stated that he was not traveling more than 20 miles per hour, and icy condition of the road prevented him from making a quick stop. Because of oncoming traffic the bus was unable to swerve out of the path of the sedan, Kepler, the driver, stated, and his story was substantiated by other witnesses.
An inquest into the accident was held at Linesville Town Hall on Monday night. The jury was J.A. Martin, D.M. Akens, C.E. Turner, J.E. VanSicklin, C.A. Miller and M.L. Kepner. They rendered a verdict that deaths occurred from an automobile accident. A.R. Kepler was the driver of the bus of the West Ridge Transportation Co.

Gay, of the Universalist church.
