- from the December 12, 1906 issue of the Linesville Herald:
A very pretty wedding ceremony was performed Wednesday evening, December 5, 1906, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace H. Phillips, South Mercer street, when their daughter, Miss Marguerite, was united in marriage to Mr. Charles Hayes, both of Linesville. The wedding ceremony took place in the presence of only the members of the two families and near relatives.
At 6:30 p.m. Miss Lillian Shattuck, cousin of the bride, played the wedding march entitled "Love's Springtime," when the young couple appeared and took their places in front of the officiating minister, Rev. Harry C. Hildebrand, pastor of the UP church, of which both young people are members. The bride wore a pretty wedding gown of white organdie, trimmed with chiffon and silk violets.
Miss Phillips is the only daughter of Wallace H. Phillips, of the firm of Shatttuck & Phillips, one of the leading dry goods firms of this place. She is one of Linesville's most popular young ladies.
Mr. Hayes is a son of William Hayes, the jeweler, and is himself in business here, having the only photograph studio in town. He is one of our youngest and most congenial business men.
The happy couple were the recipients of many beautiful and useful wedding presents, among which were silverware, cut glass, hand painted china and a beautiful clock.
The house decorations were carnations and smilax very neatly and artistically arranged to make a pleasing effect.
After the ceremony the young couple led the way to the dining room, where all enjoyed a bountiful wedding dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Hayes will reside in their home town, where they have many friends who wish them a long and happy life.
