      Dan McLane Hit by Train
Dan McLane, an onion grower of this place, was struck by the Bessemer local, a short distance from here, last week Tuesday night about 9:30 and has been in Spencer hospital since then. Mr. McLane was on his way home walking along the track and in getting out of the way, it is thought, he slipped and was not seen by the engineer of the swiftly moving train until he was hit. He was picked up just outside of the "y" by the train crew and brought up to the station and placed in the waiting room where Dr. H.H. Walker gave the needed aid until he could get the injured man to Meadville by taking the engine and caboose back to the city.
At the hospital he did not regain consciousness until the next day but although thought to be fatally injured he is much better. At the hospital it was found that his head was cracked from ear to ear with a hole in the top of his skull, his shoulder was broken in three places, his eye was black and had a toe somewhat injured. He is a cousin of Hon. L.O. McLane of this place and was about 60 years old.
    • from the August 24, 1921 issue of the Linesville Herald:
Mr. and Mrs. D.W. McLane, visiting son A.W. McLane, and brother, Hon. L.O. McLane, will return this week to their home in Arkansas. Dan was formerly a resident of this place.
