POLICE PROBE MAN'S DEATH AT LINESVILLE
Linesville police and officials of the county coroner's office are continuing investigation of the death of an 83-year old Linesville resident.
The body of Edgar (Ed) Allen of East Erie Street was found hanging in the stairway of his home by friends about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. He had been dead for several days according to Dr. H.H. Walker, Linesville, deputy Crawford County coroner.
Linesville Police Chief Edward C. Roxberry said investigation showed that Allen's personal effects and the house in which he lived alone gave no indication of any intruder or foul play.
Chief Roxberry said Allen had not picked up his mail at the post office - as was his habit - last week.
Mrs. George Prouty of Conneautville, at whose home he often spent the weekend, drove to Linesville with her family yesterday afternoon when Allen failed to come for his usual visit.
After finding the doors locked, they summoned John Dennis, a relative, who opened the house and discovered Allen's body.
Born in Conneaut Township, he was employed as a carpenter by the Pennsylvania Railroad for many years and worked at the Keystone Ordnance Works during World War II.
His wife, the former Bessie A. Dennis, died in 1949. His only immediate survivor is a niece, Mrs. Luther Stubb, Detroit, Mich.
Friends may call at the Maryott Funeral Home, Linesville, where services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Linesville Cemetery.
