    • from the April 9, 1930 issue of the Linesville Herald:
Albert Barnes Griffing, son of Louisa and Andrew M. Griffing, was born at Rome, Ashtabula Co., Ohio, November 27th, 1851, and died at Spencer Hospital, Meadville, April 1, 1930, aged 78 years, 4 months and 4 days. He was the fourth of six boys, all of whom are now dead but one, Frank, formerly of this place, now residing at Bristolville, Ohio. His early boyhood days were spent on the farm where he was born with the exception of two years in the state of Iowa. On December 22nd, 1872, he was married to Edna Wilmot, at Cherry Valley, Ohio. To this union were born four children, Clayton, now of Erie, Pa., and Zatella, Curtis and Howard, of Linesville. After his marriage Mr. Griffing wsa employed for some time as a cheese maker but soon came to realize that if he was to get ahead in life he must have a business of his own. The little family consisting of mother, father, and Clayton, who was then a baby, came to Linesville in the spring of 1877. After operating the local cheese factory for a few years he formed a partnership with the late H.C. King, of Springboro,Pa., to engage in the wholesale cheese business. This venture was successful but the partnership was dissolved in 1900 in order that each partner might take his son into the business. Thus the present firm of A.B. Griffing & Sons was formed, whose affairs were of paramount interest to the deceased until the very day of the accident which was the immediate cause of his untimely death. Having spent fifty-three years of his life in Linesville, he was one of its oldest residents. He led an active life and was well and favorably known throughout this section.
He is survived by the above mentioned children and six grand-children Stewart and Griffing Garwood, Edward, Richard, Winifred and Neil Griffing. Mrs. Griffing having departed this life December 6th, 1927.
Mr. Griffing was a constant reader along philosophical lines, which developed in him an optomistic outlook on life, making him appear much younger than he really was. It was his wish to live that when he was gone his friends could say in truth that the world was a little better for his having lived. What higher ideal can any man have than his?
Services in his memory were held from the late residence Thursday afternoon, April 3rd, conducted by Rev. George Gay, pastor of the Universalist Church of this place. These services were largely attended by friends and relatives from many points in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
      Interment in Linesville cemetery.

    Notes
    • from the August 23, 1898 issue of the Linesville Herald:
One or more burglars entered, last week Tuesday night, the residence of A.B. Griffing, this place, by raising of unlocked window in the dining room and passed into sitting room, bed room adjoining, taking a chair on which his clothes were, and passed out as they went in, having previously gotten a chair from A.V. Allen's porch to aid in getting through the window. They considerately left his pants and all contents of clothes except a wallet containing about $4 and gold watch - they kept coat and vest and threw trousers, the pockets of which they stuffed with pass books and papers of coat, back into the house. The job was cleverly done and was not discovered until hour of rising. No clue to perpetrators of the theft. If any one should get the watch who will return it to owner a suitable reward will be paid. It is a H.H. Taylor Elgn gilt movement, No. 2683421, open face, gold filled case.
