FORMER LINESVILLE MAN DIES AT OHIO PLANT:
Willougbhy, Ohio - A former Linesville man was killed Friday morning while working at a steel plant in Willoughby, Ohio.
Alvin Lee Largent, 61, of Madison, Ohio, died after a 500-pound steel plate fell on him at Reighart Steel Products Corp. at 11:12 a.m. Friday, according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper.
Largent was born in Linesville and was a 1964 graduate of Linesville High School.
Willoughby Police said Largent was operating a press brake machine and was moving a 500- to 600-pound steel plate to another area where it would be bent for production, the newspaper reported. A large clamp holding the steel snapped, and the steel fell back on Largent's machine, trapping him, the paper reported.
Reighart Steel Products Corp. designs and manufactures water-cooled furnace panels, according to the newspaper. It also makes and repairs refractory doors and lifting bails used in manufacturing.
Largent was rushed to Lake West Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No other workers were injured, the paper said. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, the newspaper said.
Royal-Coleman Funeral Home of Linesville is handling funeral arrangements. Largent's obituary appers on page A8 in today's Tribune.
