NEWS FOR THE LINESVILLE CEMETERY

JANUARY 2010

January 9 - 1 - When at the cemetery to mark a grave for a burial this coming Monday, we caught a young man riding through the cemetery on his snowmobile and warned him that this was not allowed. When he stated "my bad, I didn't know" we informed him that the rules are prominently marked on the cemetery sign.

2 - Have finished uploading photographs and genealogical data on all people known to be buried in Sections A-D. Have the first few rows of Section E-F done and will continue to work on it in the following days. 3 - The "Person of the Month" was at a standstill for awhile as we hadn't received any photographs of persons buried in the cemetery. I am pleased to say that it will be re-started today and I'll upload a new "person of the month" later today! If you have any photographs of people buried in our cemetery, we would love to have them, so we can honor the people properly!

AUGUST 2009

August 7 - Finished photographing the entire cemetery. FOUND: Discovered the names of the four people buried in the A.J. Newcomb plot in Section C, Row 32. Their tombstones are so worn, faded, broken (and in one case, non-existant). We have now located Alexander Jackson Newcomb, his wife ELizabeth R. Harvey Newcomb, and their children Cyrenius J. Newcomb and Minnie J. Newcomb.

MAY 2009

May 28 - Updated the home page with news of trimming of bushes and trees, and removal of some. Changed the PERSON OF THE MONTH page to reflect honorees up until June 2009.

APRIL 2009

It appears that the young generation of today has no respect for cemeteries, the deceased, and the families they leave behind. In addition, riding ATVs in the Cemetery is against the law, these boys chose to drive right over the graves themselves instead of staying on the roadway. This incident occured Friday, April 24th, 2009 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Click HERE to see an enlarged photo - can you identify these boys?
April 26 - Identified "Unknown, Melvin W." as Melvin W. Soper in section I, 227, grave 7, through his wife's obituary.
April 25 - added photo of ATV riders going through the cemetery. Changed the header and updated some of the pages.
April 12 - Added photographs and Adobe Acrobat individual files for people in Section W, rows 11 and some in row 10.
April 11 - Fixed some errors in Section W, and added photographs and Adobe Acrobat individual files for people in Section W, rows 12 and 13.

SEPTEMBER 2008
Hurricane Ike Damage Hurricane Ike Damage

HURRICANE IKE: Who would have thought that the wind left over from Hurricane Ike would have caused damage in Linesville!? The winds that hit Crawford County September 14th, caused a large tree branch to come down in the cemetery. The branch is down in Section W in what appears to be the J. W. Kellogg family plot. Several people will need to move this branch and then we can assess the damage. I'll list more information when I know it.

AUGUST 2008
Recent Vandalism

VANDALISM AUGUST 2008 The Randall Family Stone (Section H, Plot 194) was vandalized recently, with someone knocking the monument off it's base. Please contact me, or the Linesville Police Department if you know of anyone who might have done this.
